ABOUT THE ARTIST
Monteiro's profession started 2015 where the only tool he used were his hands. Squeezing paint directly into his bare hands in order to physically connect with the canvas, and ultimately one’s gaze. Today he uses the technique of layering oil paint to create dimension and entice the viewer to paint their own perceptions in their mind of what they’re looking at. Monteiro focuses on two directions - Portraits and fluffy toys. His abstract oil portraits show that beauty lies in imperfection, ultimately challenging the notion of a deeper perspective. Through his paintings of toys, he evokes elements of nostalgia and playfulness for the viewer by creating images that feel familiar and interpretive in their own right.
